The Lead Tenant program places young people aged 15-19 with live-in youth mentors, also known as Lead Tenants, to help build their independence skills before leaving care.

The young people within the program have exhibited a level of maturity and independence to qualify them for this model of housing and support.

Lead Tenants are volunteers who live rent-free with young people in a shared household to create a safe and supportive living environment which supports their transition to independent living.

Lead Tenants act as positive role models for the young people, both in managing their own day-to-day routines and commitments, and more broadly in their personal conduct within the house and the community. Lead Tenants provide general direction, encouragement and support within the household, predominantly by example.
